How do I know which lock I need?

Not all locks fit all doors as there are a number of factors to consider.

What is the difference between a deadbolt and a dead latch?

A deadbolt is a type of lock that cannot be rotated without a key or an internal knob. The bolt is not spring loaded, unlike the dead latch. The dead latch has a bevelled bolt (flat on one side and curved on the other) and self-latches when the door closes.

Do you only sell locks?

No, John Barnes provides a wide range of locksmithing products/services and security solutions. We cater all your needs from barrel bolts to padlocks; from bike chains to electric strikes; to bathroom products and accessories including grab rails for the elderly.

I have a key with your name on it. Can I take this to a closer locksmith to get copies cut?

Possibly not as this usually indicates that the key belongs to a keying system needing authorisation before providing additional copies.

I have locked my keys in the car; can you send a locksmith to unlock my car?

Yes, we are able to send our mobile locksmiths to assist you dependent on the make and model of the vehicle. 

What are your service charges?

Service charges include a call out fee plus labour charges. Any parts supplied are additional to these charges.

What if I can’t bring a broken lock to you to fix?

No problem, call us at 07 3275 8888 and we will get one of our mobile locksmiths to come to you.

Do you have delivery service?

We do not personally deliver your order, but we can arrange for it be carried to your door via a courier service or Australia Post.

Additional charges will be incurred by you for these services.
